Independent Educational Evaluations throughout Southeastern PA

When you need a second opinion, we’re here to help.

An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is a private evaluation requested by a parent or caregiver when they disagree with a school’s evaluation or believe it doesn’t fully reflect their child’s strengths, needs, or communication profile. IEEs can offer new insight, more in-depth information, and support a clearer path forward - especially for children with complex communication needs or those who may benefit from AAC.

What Is an IEE?

If you are considering an IEE, here’s what the process usually looks like:

  1. Submit a written request to your child’s school or IEP team stating that you disagree with the results of the school’s evaluation and are requesting an IEE at public expense.

  2. The school must respond by either approving the request or filing for a due process hearing.

  3. Once approved, you may choose a qualified independent evaluator. You are not limited to the school’s suggested list.

  4. After approval, we can begin the evaluation process, including document review, caregiver interviews, observations, and testing.

How to Request an IEE

Around the Spectrum Therapy provides speech & language IEEs with a focus on the whole child - not just the data. Our evaluations are strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming, and designed to reflect how your child communicates in everyday situations, not just in a testing room. We complete the evaluation, provide a detailed written report with recommendations, and can attend IEP meetings to review our findings if requested.

Please note: We do not assist with requesting or securing district approval for an IEE. Families are responsible for initiating the process and obtaining written approval before scheduling services.

Our Role

If your child has been approved for an IEE and you’re looking for a provider who takes time to see the whole child - not just their scores - we’d be honored to support your family.
